Could Harry Styles replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond?

James Bond is arguably the most iconic character in British film history.

With a license to kill and a love for high tech gadgets, 007 has been leaving audiences on the edge of their seats for generations.

The latest instalment in the Bond franchise, No Time To Die, hit cinemas across the UK on Thursday (September 30) and marks the last outing for Daniel Craig as the famed spy.

Craig has been largely revered by critics and fans for his take on the secret service agent. Craig brought more depth to the character and ushered in a new era of films where high tech gadgets largely took a back seat.

Whoever takes over Craig as the next Bond will have big boots to fill, as well as mounting pressure to make the role their own, something Craig was lauded for after taking the role over from Pierce Brosnan, a fan favourite.

Naturally, since Daniel Craig announced that he was hanging up his holster and giving back the keys to the Aston Martin DB5, talk has begun over who could replace him.

Some of the names thrown into the mix have included Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and even Peaky Blinders leading star Cillian Murphy.

Got something to say on this story? Let us know.

But as Cheshire’s first 007 leaves the role behind, could the baton – or exploding pen – be handed over to a fellow Cheshire star.

Back in October 2020, singer-turned-actor Harry Styles who was tipped to be the next Bond, and for good reason.

The Brit star, who has strong links to Cheshire, made his film debut back in 2017, playing Alex in Christopher Nolan’s war epic, Dunkirk.

Critics largely applauded his portrayal of a private attempting to get off the beach at Dunkirk as British forces were bombarded by the German air force.

At present, odds on Style’s becoming the next Bond with Paddy Power are 150/1, the same odds as Orlando Bloom.

Tom Hardy is currently favourite, at 7/4 followed by James Norton and Rege Jean Page at 5/2.

Following the reports in 2020, Style’s agent rubbished reports that he could be the next 007, saying that the rumours were ‘not even remotely true’.

However, there’s no reason why Styles couldn’t surprise punters and fans alike by following in Craig’s footsteps.

Both stars have strong links to Cheshire, and fit the bill of cool, calm and collected British spy well.

Styles grew up in Holmes Chapel and attended Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School.

Meanwhile, Craig was born in Chester, at 41 Liverpool Road, where his dad Tim lived with then wife and Daniel’s mum Carol Olivia.

His mother was an art student in Liverpool, whose parents had run The Deva Hotel in Watergate Street, which then became Amber Lounge.

According to reports, it was while Tim was working as a landlord of the Ring O’ Bells pub in Frodsham during the 1970s that his son revealed what he wanted to be.

One thing is for certain, whoever ends up playing the next Bond, whether that be Harry Styles or another star, Cheshire-born Craig has left big boots to fill.
