The planned venue is said to have a capacity of 850 and is due to open this year
A planned new music venue in Crewe, billed as the town’s ‘newest and largest’, has been hit by delays. The International, which will be based at the Apollo Buckingham Health Sciences Campus, the former MMU site, was announced on social media last year with an opening date set as May 2023.
It is said to have a capacity of up to 850 people, which would make it the largest music venue in the town and among the largest in Cheshire. Few more details have thus far been released about the project, which has been worked on since July 2022 and appears to be headed by event management company Music is Now.
But the project has now been hit by delays, with the ‘grand opening’ in May pushed back to ‘later this year’. It has been put down to the ‘complex’ ownership of the venue and the ongoing work that needs to be completed.

A statement on social media said: “Unfortunately, it now appears our grand opening will be delayed until later in the year. This does mean we’ve had to postpone the upcoming announcements we were due to make over the next week or so.
“Our team have been working really hard since July 2022 on this project and we’ll continue to do so until we get that confirmed opening date.
“The ownership of the venue is very complex so there are numerous bodies we need to work with to make this project work for all parties. Once we have any further information we’ll let you all know.”
Crewe has been known for its music scene over the decades, particularly when iconic club The Limelight was in its prime during the 90s and 00s. It became a hallowed ground for tribute acts and was visited by famous faces including Yes keyboard player Rick Wakeman.
Despite its closure in 2010, Crewe’s local music scene continues to thrive with popular venues including Crewe Market Hall, Crewe Central, in the former market shed, and The Crozzy on Chester Street. This alongside pub and bar venues in the town, including Ebenezer’s on Nantwich Road.
