A pizza chain is set to launch two new venues in Cheshire. Caprinos Pizza will open the doors of its new restaurant in Ellesmere Port today (May 11).
And the award-winning business is also gearing up to open a store on Jubilee Way, Winsford, next month. We reported last year that a change of use application by Caprinos Pizza for a vacant premises on Marina Drive, Ellesmere Port, had been rubber stamped by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
The unit is one of two that were created when the former Blockbuster video store was subdivided in 2017 – but had never been filled. Caprinos Pizza is primarily a takeaway and delivery chain and the applicant had originally proposed this style of business for the Ellesmere Port venue.

However, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s public health team had objected to those plans amid concerns about how close the unit is to nearby schools, the “significant number of existing hot food takeaways” in this area, and the high levels of obesity locally. A revised application was then submitted for a change of use from retail to a restaurant, with the plans showing the premises catering for 28 customers.
Caprinos Pizza, which announced its first ever charity partner – Lucy Air Ambulance for Children (Lucy AAC) – ahead of the official opening of the Ellesmere Port premises, has confirmed it will be offering free pizza to celebrate the launch.
Meanwhile, councillor Richard Beacham, cabinet member for inclusive growth, economy and regeneration, has welcomed the addition of the pizza chain to Winsford. He said: “Winsford Town Centre is a dynamic environment at the moment; lots of work is going on behind the scenes which will result in Winsford Cross getting a whole new look and lease of life.
“The decision by Caprinos to set up business here is an indication that Winsford is a town on the move and together with the many great businesses already here, we expect even more businesses to become attracted to Winsford as work on the town centre progresses.”
Mumtaz Hussain, manager of Caprinos in Winsford, added: “We can see that Winsford town centre is redeveloping and are delighted to open our new store in the town. We offer an exceptional variety of pizzas for delivery and takeaway and are sure our new customers in Winsford will enjoy our food and keep coming back for more.”
