The pantomimes taking place in Cheshire this Christmas

Everyone has their own idea of the best way to get into the Christmas spirit.

For some, it’s putting decorations up as soon as possible, while for others, it can be as simple as enjoying some of the foods that only come out during the festive season.

However, for children, along with many adults, a tried and tested means of getting into the Christmas spirit is through a good old fashioned pantomime.

Thankfully, Cheshire isn’t short of options when it comes to which pantomime to watch. Several theatres across the county have various takes on classic productions.

So whether you’re trying to get into the Christmas spirit, or just after a way to entertain the kids for an afternoon, here’s a list of some of the pantomimes taking place across Cheshire this festive season.

Oliver Twist at Storyhouse in Chester

Former Storyhouse artistic director Alex Clifton has adapted Charles Dickens’ famous novel for the stage with some distinctively festive elements and a cast that includes professional actors and local children.

The show can be seen at the city centre venue from December 4-January 16 and more details are available at storyhouse.com.

Ellesmere Port Civic Centre, Ellesmere Port: Jack and the Beanstalk

Ellesmere Port Civic Centre will host Anton Benson Productions Jack and the Beanstalk this festive season.

The much loved production will see Crissy Rock take up the role as ‘Fairy ‘Cross the Mersey’, with more casting to be announced.

Tickets to the production, which will run between December 14 and December 24, are on sale now.

Lyceum Theatre, Crewe: Sleeping Beauty

Another festive favourite will be taking place at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe this festive season.

Crossroads Pantomimes production of Sleeping Beauty will feature a comedian and TV personality Bobby Davro, X Factor finalist Amelia Lily along with Malcolm Lord.

The production runs from Friday 10 December 10, 2021, until January 2, 2022, with tickets available from the Crewe Lyceum website or by calling the box office.

Northwich Memorial Court, Northwich: Sleeping Beauty

Anton Benson Productions Sleeping Beauty will also be taking place at Northwich Memorial Court this festive season.

Ryan Greaves returns and is celebrating 10 years as a comic in Northwich. Tickets to this year’s production are on sale now.

The show is set to run from December 11 up until December 31.

Parr Hall, Warrington: Snow White

Tony Peers Productions will be staging their take on the pantomime classic Snow White in January 2022.

The family favourite fairy tale, which will take place between January 7 and January 16, is set to be a hit with kids and adults alike.

Theatr Clwyd, Mold: Beauty and the Beast

Although not in Cheshire, the Theatr Clwyd is always a hit with residents who travel to see the pantomime productions held there.

The acclaimed rock ’n’ roll panto, which is written by Christian Patterson, is back this year with Beauty and the Beast.

Tickets are on sale now, with the show running from November 26, 2021, until January 15, 2022.

The Grange Theatre, Hartford: Cinderella

The Grange Theatre in Hartford, Cheshire, will be hosting KD Theatre Productions version of family favourite Cinderella.

The show will star Northwich favourites Rob Stevens as Fairy Godmother and Oliver Scott as Buttons.

Those in attendance will be treated to live music, amazing sets, and ‘bags of comedy’. The show is set to run from December 11 to January 2, 2022.

Wilmslow Guild, Wilmslow: Hansel and Gretel

Writer Norman Robbins’ production of Hansel and Gretel will be coming to Wilmslow Guild this festive season.

The show, which will run between December 15 and December 18, will be full of fun, comedy routines and laughter for all the family. Tickets are on sale now.
