What are the Christmas and New Year bin collection dates in Cheshire

Bin collections in Cheshire will be slightly different for some areas over the Christmas and New Year period.

Over the course of the festive season, bins across the region will be full to the brim with wrapping paper, boxes, food and all types of waste.

You will need to keep an eye on any changes to bin collection dates in your local area to avoid being overloaded with rubbish.

Councils across the region have now released their Christmas waste collection timetables.

Some are making changes that need to be remembered, so we have looked into the bin timetables for Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Warrington and Halton.

Cheshire West and Chester

There will be no changes to collections for general waste and recycling over the festive period in Cheshire West and Chester.

But the garden waste service is suspended for 12 weeks from December 6 and will resume on Monday, February 28.

Cheshire West and Chester Council also reminded residents that there will be a £40 annual charge for garden waste collection from this date.

The local authority stated: “If you would like your garden waste collected on your scheduled garden waste collection day from Monday, February 28, 2022, you will need to make the required annual payment.”

Cheshire East

On November 10, Cheshire East Council announced it will continue to deliver a full general waste and recycling collection service across the borough.

However, there will be no garden waste collections from Wednesday, December 22 to Monday, January 3 and collections will resume as normal on Tuesday January 4.

The changes will only affect those households that have their household waste or recycling collections on a Monday or a Tuesday.

Cheshire East Council’s environmental services company, Ansa, will be placing information stickers on black bins of those households whose normal collections fall on the bank holidays.

The changes are as follows:

  • If your black bin was due for collection on Monday 27 December, it will now be collected on Thursday 23 December
  • If your silver bin was due for collection on Monday 27 December, it will now be collected on Wednesday 22 December
  • If your black bin was due for collection on Tuesday 28 December, it will now be collected on Wednesday 29 December
  • If your silver bin was due for collection on Tuesday 28 December, it will now be collected on Friday 24 December
  • If your black bin was due for collection on Monday 3 January, it will now be collected on Friday 31 December
  • If your silver bin was due for collection on Monday 3 January, it will now be collected on Thursday 30 December.

Halton

Due to a number of bank holidays, Halton Borough Council has stated there will be disruption to bin collections over the festive period.

Despite the disruptions to general and recycling waste days over the Christmas and New Year period, a revised schedule has been provided.

Below is a picture of the alternative schedule provided by the body, who also say the service will resume as normal from January 24.

Warrington

Warrington Borough Council has stated that there will be no changes to the bin collections over Christmas.

The body said ‘hard-working’ collection teams will carry on as normal throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “Our hard-working refuse collections teams will be working as usual over the Christmas period.

“Even if your usual collection day lands on the bank holiday, your bin will still be collected as normal.

“This means that bins usually collected on Tuesday, December 28 will be collected.”
